Cinderella is enslaved by her evil stepmother, who illegally practices black magic and of course is plotting to take over the kingdom some day. Cinderella has to do all the menial chores for her stepmother and two nasty stepsisters in the house and cannot leave the grounds, thanks to her stepmother's magical enchantment. But Cinderella dreams of one day escaping, maybe finding her mother's wand, and becoming a ninja warrior wizard who helps people. During her brief moments of free time she's already been doing some ninja training with the help of a book her cat found. She's also experimented a little with magic - it seems she did inherit some of her mother's magical ability - but so far it's not much good except for moving small objects. One day a messenger from the palace arrives with invites to the ball. The messenger, named Ty, is rather smitten with Cinderella and she wishes she could see him again...and from there, the story can take one of eight different paths. All end the same way, but the routes can vary a bit. I read two different options. One read more like the traditional Cinderella story, where she goes to the ball and has glass slippers and all. The other skipped the ball, focused more on a ninja/wizard tournament and involved a locket. Both were fun.I haven't read a choose your own adventure type book in ages. I actually had no idea this one was like that until I cracked the cover and saw the Library of Congress info on the copyright page (yes, librarians do nerdy things like that sometimes before reading). This is rigged somewhat in that all routes will read the same 4th section and ending, but it was still fun to be able to get two different Cinderella stories out of the same book. I liked that McGowan let Cinderella and the prince meet multiple times over quite a few days before the ball, and the way Cinderella in all routes makes fun of girls who want to be picked out of a lineup by a strange guy. The ninja/wizard elements were also a fun new addition, and Max, her godfather (not fairy but wizard) is also a nice change from the norm. A great book for fairytale fans because this one provides new fun with each different re-reading. My favorite route was 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9.

Cinderella Ninja Warrior Twisted Tales Maureen McGowan Books Reviews
One of my daughter's favorite authors. My girls from age 10 and up love this writing style and subject matter.
I really loved Cinderella Ninja Warrior. It was a amazing story. My favourite part was the fact that Cinderella doesn't wait around for her prince to come she practices ninja skills and even a little magic. However I felt cheated about the whole "8 outcomes" & "pick your ending thing." No matter what you choose it's the same beginning and same ending. You just change some of the details. But overall it's a great story. And I think anybody will love it. But tweens will enjoy it the most.
This was an interesting read and I didn't really regret dropping the money on it -- but for 7 dollars, I was really expecting a lot more.
I agree with the reviewer who said that they'd have preferred "acrobat" to "ninja" because honestly, for the fairy tale style settling, throwing in ninjas seems a bit out of place, and she also never really did any real fighting, so for the amount of dissonance that I had trying to meld together European background settings with the concept of ninjas -- it might have been better to just not have done it. Then again, I'm sure then she would have lost out on the many readers who probably only picked it up because of the novelty of thinking of Cinderella as a ninja.
For execution -- I really think there should have been more little scenes that weren't re-used. I would end up skimming past the sections I'd already read, and a lot of it felt like it was overly-reused. I know that writing choose-your-own-adventures is hard because you're essentially writing at least three different books instead of just one -- but if you don't, if you re-use the way the author did, then the reader, or at least this one, is going to end up feeling a bit cheated because there is so much overlap. And I didn't really feel like there were more than two main plots throughout the entire book, since you got railroaded one way or another into the two main plots, which was disappointing when the two main plots re-used various scenes for too little variation.
For the plot -- I thought there were some problems with how the prince just sort of fell immediately in love with Cinderella. Their relationship didn't really grow, in my opinion. It was just the prince endlessly praising her and encouraging her, and whereas that might be fine for a younger audience, I felt like it was way too unbelievable for my taste. There was little character growth, a lot of telling not showing, and the way the characters interacted often lacked nuance. Especially the romance. Just not really there, in my opinion.
I took a look at the sleeping beauty one and I think I might have to give it a miss. At least for the 7 dollar price. If it ever goes to 1.99 or 99 cents, I'd get it, but 7 is just way too much for the quality so far that I see.
