THE RAVEN PRINCE is book one in Elizabeth Hoyt's "Prince" trilogy, was her debut novel, and remains one of my favorite romances of all time. I originally read this story when it was released back in 2006 and its one of the rare few that I enjoy re-reading every couple of years or so. The entire book from the very first chapter, caught my attention and held my interest all the way through to the last. Its simply a fantastic tale with a hero and heroine who are totally not your typical "beautiful" types. It's too funny the way they describe each other at first sight. I found Anna to be both intelligent and independent, and I completely loved her. Edward on the other hand starts off brash and just plain mean, but he grows on you and I ended up adoring him also.

The love between these two was utterly unique and absolutely beautiful. Then there are the sex scenes which were hot, hot, hot! They're downright daring but also superbly written without being trashy. A couple of scenes are pretty explicit, so if you don't like that sort of thing then it may not be a book for you. In the end however the humor, adventure, and characters are what make this book so much fun. What I loved most about it though was the interaction between Anna and Edward. Their connection was undeniable and their romance really touched me emotionally. All in all its one of the best stories that I've ever had the pleasure of reading and a definite keeper. I'd highly recommend it to all historical romance lovers like myself and is a must read =)

The Raven Prince Elizabeth Hoyt 9780446618472 Books Reviews

This was my first Elizabeth Hoyt book, and won't be my last. It's another historical romance, similar and different in its own ways.

The romance is of the instalove variety, with enforced closeness that brings them together. Lucy and Simon come from very different places in life, and are different people. Despite that, the two bond. Lucy has an inner strength that she slowly learns to use, albeit a little late for my liking. Simon is a man on a determined, dark course. He finds new meaning for his life when he meets Lucy, a bright angel in his life, and everything changes for him after that. Despite that, it takes a very long time for them both to come to terms with the life he has chosen for himself, for the two broken people to become whole. There is heat between them, but it seemed more dutiful than passionate, which was unfortunate.

Overall, it was a good story. There was a plot that moved quickly and well, and a lot of growth for the characters. There were other secondary characters that were funny and interesting, so it gets me interested in the next book. There are questions raised about morality that you don't often see in these kinds of books, which was something. The romance in the end was satisfying, and the characters had to work for it. I would recommend this book.
4 stars

I surprisingly really liked this one. I don't usually read historical romances but I read this one as as a suggestion for a GR challenge. Well I'm glad I read it because it was a fun, sexy read and even though the plot was quite unrealistic, I didn't really care. I just enjoyed the book.

The story is set in England in the 1700s. Anna is a young widow who lost her husband due to illness. She is not exactly grieving due to the fact that towards the end she was in a loveless marriage due to her husband's betrayal. She is forced to find work to support herself and her mother-in-law and ends up working as a secretary for the Earl of Swartingham, Edward.

I loved that Edward was not the typical handsome hero. He had smallpox as a child and is now scarred on his face and body. He was definitely attracted to Anna but he was uncertain if she returned his feelings because of his scars and previous history with women finding him repulsive.

Of course because this is the 1700s, women were viewed as inferior citizens and this was very annoying to read, like this scene for example when Edward is reminiscing about Anna...
Of course the topic was an interesting one, but he’d never had occasion to talk to a woman about such masculine matters before. He’d flirted when young, naturally, and knew how to make light social chatter. But to exchange ideas with a woman as one did with a man was a new experience. And he liked talking with little Mrs. Wren.

But this was the reality of those times, so I got past it.

Anna finds out that Edward is planning to go to a brothel and she devises a plan to make sure that she is the woman that he sleeps with. Yes, here we get to the very unrealistic part of the book. Things from this point don't make much sense but it was so fun that it didn't matter. She also hides her identity from him by wearing a mask. Yes, even though he worked with her everyday, he was unable to recognize her because of a butterfly shaped mask on her face. Sigh!

Anyway, this book is quite erotic. It was very HOT! The scenes were quite detailed.

This book was also quite funny. It had that slight british humor that added more appeal to the book.

Overall, it was a good read. I would definitely read another book of Elizabeth Hoyt
