The Kraken King Part II The Kraken King and the Abominable Worm eBook Meljean Brook
Part II of the Kraken King is even better than Part I. If I had to describe this part using three words I would use: secrets, tension and "whoa" followed by some teeth clattering.Okay so that last wasn't really a word so much as an exclamation, but I was on the edge of my seat while reading this. The reason why is not unpredictable, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable to read. In fact, I think it will be a scene I return to simply just because I liked it so much. If you're familiar with it, this part reminded me of one of my all time favorite B movies, Tremors. This book may not have Kevin Bacon but there was this one scene between the hero and heroine that had my eyes all but glued to my Kindle.
The secrets and tension concern the protagonists of the story. Both Zenobia and Ariq have secrets and people they are protecting, yet they are increasingly drawn to one another. As they feel each other out and tentatively flirt the intensity between them builds at a steady pace. I cannot help but suspect that Meljean Brook will continue to increase the pressure until I won't be able to turn the pages fast enough.
This story is moving forward very nicely. The world Brook has built is almost tangible to me, and between that and the characters my brain is kept extra busy taking it all in. I can't wait to get started on Part III.

The Kraken King Part II The Kraken King and the Abominable Worm eBook Meljean Brook Reviews
The Iron Seas is a great series populated with characters that develop change and grow. When I read Brook's work I feel the tension between the characters. Brooks does a wonderful job of presenting the male and female p.o.v.
Meljean has done it again! Zenobia and Ariq will make a terrific couple, once they finally get it together (which *SPOILER ALERT* we all know they will, despite some trials and tribulation). Can't wait for the next installments. The characters and the world-building of the Iron Seas series is the absolute best in steampunk romance.
I fell in love with the characters, the imaginative scenery, the complicated steampunk world, the wonderfully exciting action, the intricate plots, and the great love sequences! Instead of reviewing each sequel separately, I would give them all 5 stars, as they all held my interest because of the pointers mentioned above. After reading Part I, I could not wait to read the next sequel. The characters hold true throughout each sequel, and Meljean Brook does a wonderful job in working in her character descriptions and personality through their actions and dialogue. Ms. Brook also does a magnificent job setting the scenes; I felt as though I was riding in the airships, seeing the giant krakens, walking through the streets of the different communities, traveling on the mechanical walking spiders across country, and watching the horrible boiler worms rise up from underground! Ariq, Zenobia, Archimedes, Captain Corsair, Helen, Mara, Cooper, and the host of other characters are completely unforgettable as they are "painted" so well by Ms. Brook. If the reader loves books that have the hero and heroine developing a strong love attachment with obstacles along the way, great action within each of the sequels, trying to figure out how our hero and heroine will get through, over or around the next threatening obstacle, and experiencing the amazing wonders and developments within this intriguing world, the reader cannot help but love reading this series. I highly recommend starting with Part I and reading through to Part VIII!
Not a sequel! Annoyed. I purchased this thinking it was a sequel to the Kraken King which I had already purchased as a single item in its entirety. Apparently it's also sold in three parts and this is the middle chunk. Yes, I pushed that buy it now button a little too quickly but still annoying. The novel itself is great which is why I was so quick to click when I thought there was a second story.
Zenobia remains attracted to Ariq regardless of the heartache she felt at his perceived betrayal. Ariq knows he must keep his distance from her to be effective in keeping his people safe should the Empress decide to release her ironships to insure that the marauders are found and defeated. Part two is action-packed with some OMG moments that were breath-taking. Zenobia and Ariq can't help earning for each other even as they both strive for indifference. Big sigh.
Steam punk novel with no sex. Part 2 of a serialized novel.
This part has Zenobia journeying to a smuggler's den to arrange for transport to the Red City. Ariq & a group of other townspeople go along. There's still a misunderstanding between Ariq & Zenobia that's keeping them apart. Helene is getting desperate to rejoin her husband in the Red City.
The last chapter has some excitement with an attack from a boiler worm (Abominable Worm).
So part II came and went in the blink of an eye, mainly my fault because I didn't put it down until I was finished.
The only comparison I can come up with to explain what it's like to read the Kraken King is perhaps like playing candy crush (for those who play will know what I mean), you going smoothly and you think you are almost there and next thing you know you are out of lives and waiting for the next one to come again. So I will now patiently wait for the 29th to continue this adventure.
I like Zenobia although she did leave me slightly frustrated in this book, I like that she is clever and rational and extremely resourceful. Ariq could be most women's dream come true, an exceptional character. I'm enjoying the other characters like Mara and Cooper and Helene, overall they are just as entertaining and with enough depth not to be ignore.
The voyage is amazing and the adventure continues, every expectation I had for part 2 of the Kraken King was surpassed and I'm tempted to call Meljean Brook a genius.
